PTC 1047 is a cross-reference to OEM part of Komatsu 56B-20-15910 which is utilised in the propeller shaft assembly of articulated dump trucks that must repeat loading and hauling tasks at mines and quarry sites. The alloy steel cross body is carburised so that it produces a hard wear surface, and the core is soft enough to absorb the sudden burst of torque without cracking. The journals of trunnions are cut to tight tolerances and allow the bearings of the needles to run, and the localised wear that has often led to premature joint failure is reduced.
A self-locked bearing cup and multi-stage lip seal design are applied to the assembly, ensuring that the factory-filled grease remains in place and dust and moisture prevalent to unpaved haul routes are excluded. This design enables increased time between the manual lubrication checks.
